Albertans Capture Top Songwriting Honors At Doves

NASHVILLE, TN — A couple of Albertans took home the top songwriting honors at the 39th Annual GMA Dove Awards on Wednesday, April 23.

Bernie Herms, who is originally from the province, won the Song of the Year award for co-writing East To West along with Mark Hall. Appearing on the best-selling Christian album, The Altar And The Door, by Casting Crowns, East To West was also selected as the Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year. Meanwhile, Natalie Grant, who has been married to Herms since 1999, was chosen as the Female Vocalist of the Year.

Taking home the Dove for Songwriter of the Year was Cindy Morgan. Morgan lives in Red Deer, Alberta, for half of the year, along with her husband, author Sigmund Brouwer. One of Morgan’s songs, How You Live (Turn Up The Music), released by Point of Grace, won the Dove for Country Recorded Song of the Year.
